Title -  USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, or USS IKE

 

Description -  The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), nicknamed "Ike".  She is the second of 10 Nimitz-class supercarriers in the United States Navy and named after the thirty-fourth President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower.   Originally, she was named Eisenhower, much like her sister, Nimitz.  On May 25, 1970, the name was lengthened to Dwight D. Eisenhower.  On commissioning, Ike replaced the aged World War II-era carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.
